Tribute in Light

March 11, 2002

Six-month anniversary of the terrorist attacks. The twin towers of light were meant to represent the fallen twin towers of the World Trade Center. The ceremony was held to honor victims of September 11. Tribute in Light, which rose near Ground Zero, consisted of banks of forty-four spotlights. Powered by 7,000-watt xenon bulbs the light was projected about a mile high into the night sky above Lower Manhattan. Under certain conditions, Tribute in Light could be seen from up to 40 kilometers/ 25 miles.
