Madagascar's Baobabs

Baobab Tree Fony Baobab Grandidier's Baobab

There are only eight species of baobab trees on the planet. Six of them grow in the dry part of Madagascar, the other two in the Africa continent and Australia. An interesting fact is that that baobaba store water in their trunks to survive through the dry season. Most of the baobab species in Madagascar are highly endangered mainly due to slash-and-burn agriculture, logging, and transformation of the forest habitats into agricultural land.
