There many Byzantine churches in Santorini. Usually whitewashed with circular blue domes and white crosses atop. They dominate located over the caldera Oia and Fira villagesÂ’ landscape. The smaller chapels are simple vaulted structures with interior resembling local traditional cave houses. Many bell towers hold sets of two, three, or even more bells, so important in the Greek Orthodox services.
