Square at the base Gniew Castle (Poland) was built by of the Teutonic Order at the end of the 13th century. Construction lasted 40 years. When completed, it was one of the biggest fortresses in that part of the Teutonic State. This fortification served as a hospital for sick and wounded members of the Order and as a place where elderly knights spent their last days.
