Touro Synagogue

Touro Synagogue Touro Synagogue Interior Touro Ionic Wooden Column

This is one of the most significant Jewish buildings in the USA. Built in 1763, Touro is the oldest synagogue building in North America. It still serves as to the active congregation in Newport, Rhode Island. The building faces the east, toward Jerusalem. There is not much of the beauty in the simple external design. The interior contains twelve wooden columns supporting balconies on three sides.
