The Beylerbeyi Palace was erected by the 32nd Sultan Abdulaziz as a summer residence and reception place for visiting heads of state. Completed in 1865, the palace is located in Istanbul, on the Asian side of the Bosphorus. It is an example of a typical 19th century Ottoman architecture and can be characterized as a mixture of European styles. Worth mentioning are two bathing pavilions located right next to the shore. They resemble pergolas. One belonged to the Sultan and the other was for Queen Mother and the Harem.
