Cape Cod peninsula in Massachusetts in the USA is a very popular New England's summer destination. It is 100 km/65 miles long and is surrounded by a bay to the north and west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. The cape is sandy, hilly, thickly forested and contains dunes, lakes and ponds. Cape Cod was named in 1602 by the English explorer, who was impressed by the abundance of codfish in the surrounding waters.
