Church of St. John the Baptist in Çavuşin is one of the oldest in Cappadocia. It dates back to the 6th century, the time of early Christian settlement. The church is located on a cliff at the top of the old village. The covered vestibule, or narthex, in the front part of the church collapsed, exposing the inner wall of the church.
Main nave of the church of St. John’s has small aisles and it is not impressive in size. However, the semi-circular recess of the main nave, known as the apse is the one of the most extensive in Cappadocia. Inside the apse there is a syntronon, a semi-circular stone bench for the clergy and a cathedral, a central raised bishop's throne. In the side-room of the church there are three rock reliefs. They are the geometric patterns. The middle square contains a flower inside a Greek cross.
