En Gedi is an oasis on the shore of the Dead Sea, on the eastern edge of the Judean Desert, near Masada in Israel. With its unusual tropical vegetation, streams, and several waterfalls, the green oasis is a contrast to the barren desert that surrounds it. Being there, we took one easy trail that leads to the David’s Waterfall. It was very pleasant walk in the valley overlooking the Dead Sea.
Streams flowing in En Gedi are fed by rainwater from the mountains in the Judean Desert. Water seeps under the surface and flows underground towards the east. Underground rivers flow to the surface near the reserve. Through waterfalls and streams, fresh water used to feed the Dead Sea in the past, but now it is used entirely by a local kibbutz.
