The Great Smoky Mountains National Park (the most visited park in the U.S.) is located in the southern Appalachian Mountains on Tennessee - North Carolina, border. The park boasts unspoiled forests similar to those the early settlers found. The mountain ridges are often draped in hazy-blue, smoky tendrils of fog. Clingmans Dome is the highest peak in the Great Smoky Mountains. It rises at 2025 m /6,643 ft. These mountains are a homeland of the Cherokee Indians, a nation with rich heritage.
