The fortress-monastery in Selime was a center for the education of the clergy. The complex includes the 9th-century cathedral-sized church with rows of columns that divide the cut into the sandstone religious structure into smaller sections. The frescoes that decorated the interior are barely visible. The walls here are covered with soot from the time when the local people used this church to cook their meals. Selime Cathedral is the largest early Christian church in Cappadocia, Turkey.
