How is skiing in the east part of the United States? It is definitely not the same as skiing in the west of the country. The mountains are lower here, the ski areas are smaller and there is less snow. Decent snow conditions mainly depend on snowmaking. In January or February, the temperature during the day may drop below -20 °F / -30 °C. Icy trails are almost the rule. In my opinion, however, there is one mountain in the east of the USA that is especially worth visiting.
Whiteface in New York state, is an Olympic mountain, the venue for all alpine skiing competitions during the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics. It is an unforgettable experience to ski the same trails where the legendary Ingemar Stenmark won gold in slalom and giant slalom. The fact that the Whiteface Mountain has the highest elevation difference of any ski resort in eastern North America at 3,430 ft / 1,050 m, makes it worth skiing here even more.
