Tembleque Aqueduct is 45 km / 28 miles long water transfer system designed by Father Francisco de Tembleque, a Franciscan missionary in New Spain, today Hidalgo, Mexico. Water was collected from the slopes of the volcano. The water system passed mostly at the ground level, but also went underground and passed over ravines and valleys. Along the way, side branches supplied the surrounding villages with water.
Constructed in the second half of the 16th century system contains arched sections. The longest is 904 m / 2966 ft long and has 67 arches. The tallest arch is 38 meters / 127 ft high.
