Near Escalante, Utah, we turned off into the gravel road called the Hole in the Rock. Shake in an hour struggle with washboard road we got to the trailhead leading to the Peek-A-Boo slot canyon.
Most of the day was spent in very narrow spaces. Time went on hiking, climbing up, sliding down, jumping off rocks, and sliding on smooth rock surface. In the immediate vicinity of the Peek-a-Boo are two other picturesque canyons: Spooky and Coyote Gulch. The first one was blocked in the middle section by several large boulders. Unable to find a convenient and safe passage, we decided to withdraw. Once we ran out of drinking water and the sky began to announce downpour, we went back to the Jeep. The air in this region is so clear that from the big distance, with the naked eye you can see the rain falling from the clouds.
