Adelaide, one of Australia's largest cities, is actually a small city surrounded by suburbs. Everything worth seeing in Adelaide is within walking distance. Founded in 1836, Adelaide is the only state capital in Australia that was not settled by convicts brought from England. In the early history of the city, there was no prison here because crime was low.
The Adelaide Hills wine region east of Adelaide is one of the oldest in Australia. The first vines were planted here in 1839. This is an area along the Mount Lofty ranges with elevations above 300 m. Wine production is possible here thanks to the warm Mediterranean climate. Adelaide Hills is a picturesque hilly area. Visiting the vineyards requires traveling along narrow winding roads. Kangaroos running among the vines remind us that this is Australia.
