On Mexico’s Pacific coast, you can always count on high air temperatures, big waves, and nice sandy beaches. There are several seaside holiday towns in Oaxaca state, but Zapolite has a different atmosphere. It is not without reason that you can find here places with significant names, Hotel Nude or Playa Amor. The city is famous for its clothing-optional beach, which attracts mainly retirees. People here hang around doing nothing. Elderly hippies can be seen on the only shopping street in the city. We got bored here very quickly. We set off in search of a more deserted place.
From Zapolite we went along the coast. On the way, we passed Mazunte, another seaside town that we had visited a few years before, until we arrived at the hotel on an unspoiled beach away from all cities. When we showed up, the receptionist greeted us saying “thank you for coming at such a difficult time”. Only two other couples stayed at this hotel. During the whole stay, we felt as if we had the whole place to ourselves, including endless completely Empty Beach #1. It was a truly peaceful refuge, still safe from the pandemic, which was spreading rapidly around the whole globe.
