Compared to other large cities in Italy, old part of Florence is relatively small. Everything here is within walking distance. This is the city where the Renaissance was born and where many famous artists lived. The most recognizable are the Florence Cathedral and the Ponte Vecchio bridge, but the most interesting is the Basilica di Santa Croce. It is the resting place of outstanding people from Florence, such as Michelangelo, Machiavelli, Rossini and Galileo.
