The second largest church in Venice after St. Mark's Basilica, Frari is the only Gothic church in the city. The church was built by the Franciscans who came to Venice in 1226. Friari is an important place as two of Titian's masterpieces and his tomb can be found here. Inside is also the remarkable tomb of the sculptor Antonio Canova.
There is a rare Wooden Choir of the friars is centrally located in front of the altar. Wooden screens were required to separate the clergy from the laity. The choir has two independent organs placed on the side of the stalls.
