Since 16th century, the region of Tarnowskie Góry in Poland has been known for lead ore mining, the source of lead and silver. As the years passed, there was a time of prosperity and the decline of the industry. In the 18th century Silesia region was taken over by the Kingdom of Prussia. Steam engines were introduced and mining operations resumed. The discoveries of rich lead and silver ore deposit resulted in the opening of the new mine named Frederik after King Frederick II. Museum in this location is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List and is called Historic Silver Mine in Tarnowskie Góry.
