The fortified defensive castle on the hill near the Vistula River in Poland dates back to the 16th century. The Castle in Janowiec changed owners several times. In 1656, when the castle was ruled by the Tarłów family, it was looted and burnt down by the Swedes during the Deluge. Another reconstruction was carried out by the Lubomirski family. Apparently, the castle was lost in the card game and passed into hands of Mikołaj Piaskowski in 1783. The Piaskowski family led the magnificent residence to ruin, which it remains to this day. This property was too small and it was not nationalized by the government of the People's Republic of Poland. The castle in Janowiec as one of the very few in communist Poland that remained in private hands.
