Church known as Rotunda of Mosta in Malta has its design based on the Pantheon in Rome. The church narrowly avoided destruction during World War II, when on 9 April 1942 a German aerial bomb pierced the dome and fell on the floor during the mass but failed to explode. An 1100 lb / 500 kilograms bomb rolled across the church floor amidst the 300 faithful gathered there, nobody was hurt. A copy of the bomb, the original was sunk in the sea, is now on display at the back of the church in the vestibule of the sacristy.
