The third biggest island in the Caribbean is home to the second highest mountains, It is an evergreen area of great biodiversity with endemic fauna and flora. Frequent heavy rainfall keeps the mountains covered in mist, makes rivers swift-flowing, and waterfalls roaring menacingly. The highest peak of these mountains exceeds 2,000 meters / 6,562 feet,
Blue Mountains are home to coffee plantations. Cool and foggy conditions, with high rainfall and rich soil create good conditions for coffee cultivation. In Jamaica the entire production process is by hand and involves planting and harvesting on steep, slippery slopes. This may explain the higher prices of Jamaican coffee when compared to coffee from plantations in nearby Central America.
