Not far from the beach there are many shipwrecks in Carlisle Bay, Barbados. At a shallow water lie a tugboat turned a party boat, a barge, a small yacht and a boat used for drug smuggling.

In 1942, German U-Boat 514 attacked two merchant ships anchored in Carlisle Bay. An anti-torpedo net protected the bay area. Out of the six torpedoes fired, only one hit its target and damaged Canadian merchant ship Cornwallis anchored in the shallow waters. She was repaired and returned to service, only to be sank two years later off the coast of Maine after another attack by U-Boat 1230. A part of Cornwallis from 1942 damage can still be found on the sandy floor of Carlisle Bay.
