Sugar Factory

There were many plantations in the Caribbean, we visited some of them on many islands. The Wingfield Estate in Saint Kitts founded in 1625, is said to be one of the first plantations in the British Caribbean. It was not very successful and had many owners. It suffered from hurricanes, was unable to produce enough food for its enslaved workers, and fell into debt. Over the centuries, indigo, sugar cane, rum, and fruit trees were grown here. All that is gone now. In the 21st century, this place is known as batik producer based on Indonesian methods. Rum is also sold here, but unfortunately it is produced on another island in the West Indies.
